Armistice and Remembrance Day 2013

The poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’, was written in 1915 by Canadian military doctor and artillery commander Major John McCrae. This poem is considered as one of the most memorable war poems ever written. It is considered that Major John McCrae began the draft for his famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ on the evening of 2nd May 1915, in the second week of fighting during the Second Battle of Ypres.

North Tawton Remembrance Sunday Parade and Memorial Service 2011

Sunday 13th November at 10.30am in The Square, North Tawton.

The Remembrance Parade, led with standards, by the various organisations, including the young people’s organisations, will proceed from The Square at 10.35am – followed by the remembrance day memorial service in St Peter’s Church, led by the Revd Nick Weldon and the Revd Philip Wagstaff. The commemoration concludes with the laying of wreaths in the cemetery.

Armistice Day marks the end of the First World War

On Friday 11 November, 2011, a memorial service will be held on the steps of North Tawton Town Hall.
