Snow White is a 19th-century German fairy tale. The Brothers Grimm published Snow White in 1812 in the first edition of their collection of Grimms’ Fairy Tales.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a Broadway play which debuted at the Little Theatre on West 44th Street, New York City, on October 31, 1912. Based on the stories by the Brothers Grimm, the play was produced by Winthrop Ames who had written it under the pseudonym “Jessie Braham White.” The play, starring Marguerite Clark, met with favourable reviews. It became the basis for the 1916 film Snow White, starring Marguerite Clark and Creighton Hale.

At the age of fifteen, Walt Disney viewed the 1916 film and was inspired to make it the subject of his first feature-length animated film in 1937.
