North Tawton Baby and Toddler Group News

Since the beginning of May, we have slowly seen the numbers of babies and toddlers using the group decline and unfortunately we have been in the situation where we have been taking less than the cost of the hire of the Town Hall, therefore having to dig into funds planned for new toys and the summer trip.  We have listened to people’s comments and opinions about the group and as a result held an urgent meeting on Tuesday 9th August. Concerns raised ranged from the toy rota, people leaving very early on in the session and the lack of summer trip. As a voluntary committee of mum’s around the town, who are dedicated to the group, we are committed to improving the provision provided.

Therefore, we have devised an action plan for improvement! On Friday 9th September we start the new term at 9.15am. Come along to see the new improved group. New people, new toys, new layout, new activities, new structure, new visits and a new rota system. Look out for the posters around the town and leaflets that will be coming through your doors!

We really would like to urge all members of the community who have or look after young children and babies to attend. Your first visit is free so come along and see what you think. The group has been running in the town for over 30 years now, it would be such a shame to lose it. We have lots of exciting things planned for this term, including a visit to the Fire Station (date to be confirmed) which we are sure the children will love.

So, please give the group a go! We start with a bang at 9.15am until 11.15 on Friday 9th September and all babies and children under school age are welcome. We really do hope to see you there to check out our new toys and activities!

Our current committee consists of Arrabella Henshaw (chair), Charlotte Brereton and Maria Ward (joint vice chair), Danielle Day (treasurer), Gina Dennis (secretary), plus a small group of very supportive and active general members. The committee wholeheartedly agrees that the group is worth running and we will do anything it takes to welcome as many new and old faces to the group as possible. So, if you have any queries, questions or ideas please feel free to pop into the group and see what’s going on!

See you all there on Friday 9th September, anytime between 9.15am to 11.15am. First activity already planned, baby area improved and welcome committee sorted!

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who have supported the group. Thank you and we hope to make this year a fantastic one.

Gina Dennis - Secretary (September 2011)
