Santa Aboard His Sleigh

Santa Aboard His Sleigh – Okehampton Round Table Santa Float Refurbished.

For over 15 years Okehampton Round Table have helped Santa aboard his sleigh, driving through the streets of Okehampton and the surrounding towns and villages making house to house collections for local good causes.

It is now recognised by the local community as a festive tradition which is eagerly awaited by children wanting to meet Santa aboard his sleigh.

This year Okehampton Round Table made a decision to refurbish the sleigh, and following a successful summer of fundraising everything has been replaced or improved.

The illuminated float is a great attraction for children who will be able to watch Father Christmas driving through the streets, listen to festive music and perhaps have a chance to meet him.

First and foremost it’s simply a bit of fun and designed to bring some early Christmas cheer. And it’s not only popular with the kids either – there are some rather “big kids” out there who seem to enjoy it just as much!

All money collected goes back to the local community – distributed by Okehampton Round Table to worthy causes throughout the year.

The members of Okehampton Round Table know how difficult this year has been for the local community and are pleased to also help with Foodbank collections, so if you do have any tins or packets that you would like to donate to the Foodbank appeal pass them onto Santa and he will do the rest.

House to house collections will start at Hatherleigh on 10 December, and visit North Tawton the following day, Sunday 11 December.

In total there will be nine collection nights in Okehampton. The dates are; 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December. There will also be a collection in Sticklepath and South Zeal on Sunday 18 December.

Please remember – it can take up to 2 hours get round all the roads on any night, and please bear in mind that the weather can hamper our progress, we do our very best to make sure we can keep to the plan, and always plan an extra night or two just in case.

The members of Okehampton District Round Table would like to thank all the local businesses who supported the Santa Float Refurbishment.

Okehampton District Round Table look forward to seeing you!

James Stevens
