DCAB: Voluntary Visitor Opportunity

Voluntary Visitor – Devon County Association for the Blind (DCAB)

If you would like to do something worthwhile supporting people with sight loss, make new friends and have a couple of hours a week to spare then becoming a Voluntary Visitor for Devon County Association for the Blind (DCAB) in the Mid Devon area might be just up your street!

You could be asked to:

  • Go for short local walks together
  • Sort and read out post and/or emails
  • Go for days out to local places of interest
  • Go shopping together for a particular gift or item
  • Go to the cinema, theatre or football matches together
  • Create Braille stickers for DVDs/CDs
  • Sew buttons on to clothing to identify colours
  • Sort through paperwork
  • Or just have a chat and a cup of tea

The amount of time you give is entirely up to you. Training and support are part of the volunteering experience and all reasonable travel expenses are provided. Whatever your skills, interests and talents as a Voluntary Visitor we will try to use them and match you to the right person to visit.

There will be lots of laughter along the way as you get to know the visually impaired person you are visiting locally and develop a positive and supportive friendship.

References and a Criminal Records Bureau check are needed before volunteers begin their visits and training and support are on offer every step of the way.

It is incredible to think how little of your time given freely to such simple tasks can make such a sizable difference to someone with sight loss.

If this seems like something you would like to be part of then please call Sue Snell on 07580 787 308 to find out more.
