Chagford 750 Flower Festival

Whiddon Team News: Chagford Flower Festival

In July 2011, the beautiful and historic church of St Michael the Archangel, Chagford, will be celebrating 750 years since its dedication by Bishop Branscombe in 1261. To mark this important event, Chagford will be hosting a Flower Festival depicting the interesting and diverse history of the church.

The Flower Festival will be held over three days; Friday 15th – Sunday 17th July, 10.00 am – 6.00 pm (11.00 am – 5.00 pm on Sunday 17th).

More than forty different groups, organisations and individuals from in and around Chagford have agreed to take part – each one will illustrate an episode of the church’s fascinating and varied history in their floral arrangements.

Throughout the weekend, as well as the Flower Festival in the church, morning coffees, lunches and afternoon teas will be served in Chagford Jubilee Hall alongside an exhibition about the church, by the children of Chagford Primary School.

In Endecott House, there will be a Craft Fair showcasing arts and crafts by the talented people in the Chagford area. On the evening of Saturday July 16th, at 7.30 pm, in the church, there will be an evening of music and words from each of the centuries since 1261, including singers Anna Shields, Alice Herrington and Emily Cook. Tickets £5.00 from Fowler’s Chagford and on the door.

The whole weekend will conclude with an Evening Service of Thanksgiving and Praise on the Sunday evening at 6.00 pm. A warm welcome awaits you, as well as an opportunity to learn about our beautiful and wonderful church.
