Burton Hall Old Norse Lodge

Burton Hall, formerly The Old Norse Lodge, is an incredible Victorian Grade II listed timber house on the outskirts of North Tawton Town.

Originally built in Norway and dismantled in 1872 by John Fulford Vicary, the wealthy owner of North Tawton woollen mill, and shipped to England in sections.

The sections arrived at Exeter canal port and were carefully transported to Bouchiers Hill, North Tawton.

Reconstructed entirely, inside and out, of reputedly fireproof timber, onto a granite plinth.

Resource: British Listed Buildings

Burton Hall was occupied by American troops during the Second World War.
